Frank Roehl to lead Heidelberg District

Frank E. Roehl, assistant superintendent of Department of Defense Dependents Schools-Europe Bavaria District, will take over as superintendent of the Heidelberg School District beginning with the new school year, DoDDS-Europe announced Tuesday.
Roehl fills the void left by the departure of Elizabeth Walker, who in March accepted a job as head of the school system's Mediterranean district. Walker had served as Heidelberg superintendent since 2001. The district oversees 15 schools in Germany.
Before working in Bavaria, Roehl served eight years in the Heidelberg district both as assistant superintendent and acting superintendent, according to a DoDDS-Europe news release.
Roehl's entire 36-year career in education has been spent in DoDDS-Europe. In 1972, he took his first teaching job at Baumholder High School in Germany. He's also a former Army field artillery officer and grew up in a military family, according to the release.
