Once again, the school year has raced passed us and summer vacation is just around the corner. Our students and teachers have earned a well-deserved break. It is my sincere hope that this has been a successful year for your child.
I ask for your support in the following ways as we close the school year and begin the summer recess.
- Be sure that you have re-registered for the next school year. Please do not wait until August. Our offices are open throughout the summer and our school staff can assist you with this annual requirement.
- If you are a parent of a secondary student, ensure that you have reviewed your child's course selection for next year and are satisfied with his/her choices. If you have concerns, see a counselor before school starts to avoid scheduling problems once the new school year begins.
- If you are leaving us, be sure to complete a Parent Exit Survey to provide feedback on how well we provided for your child's education. Forms are available from every school office. Your feedback is important to us and your comments are welcomed.
- Talk to your child's teachers about ways that you can reinforce learning over the summer to help children prepare for the next grade. They have earned a break over the summer; however, some simple learning routines can help them retain the knowledge and skills they have learned this year.
- Make reading a family priority this summer. Enjoy good books together and find time to read together as a family. This will reinforce the most important skill we teach in school.
- Review safety rules with kids to prevent accidents during the summer months. We care deeply for children and want them to return to us safe and secure when we reopen in August.
- Mark the important calendar dates for the school year on your family's master calendar. Take those dates into consideration when planning family vacations and future PCS moves. Your principal can provide another copy of the calendar if you need one.
- Plan to attend the back to school functions that the principal will announce in August. Your involvement truly makes a difference in education. Parents are indeed the first teachers of children. We welcome your involvement and know that you are critical to our success.
Important dates to remember:
- Monday, May 25 - Memorial Day (federal holiday)
- Thursday, June 11 - Students last day of school
- Friday, June 12 - Teachers last day of school
- Wednesday, August 26 - Teachers return to work for new school year
- Monday, August 31 - Students return to school for school year 2009-10
