WIESBADEN, Germany – The Department of Defense Dependents Schools - Europe has published one official list by grade levels to be used when purchasing school supplies. The list should put to rest any questions concerning what a student needs to bring to school when classes begin August 27, according to Diana Ohman, Director, DoDDS-Europe. “It is the only official list of supplies for students attending DoDDS-E schools throughout Europe,” Ohman said. “Other lists that may be in circulation, and any requests for students to bring additional supplies, should be disregarded. Parents should only follow the DoDDS-E official guidelines when purchasing school supplies for their children,” she added. “The guidelines also specify what supplies will be provided by DoDDS-E schools. Parents need not purchase those items for their students,” Ohman noted. Several parents have already questioned why quantities and specific sizes are not given in the guidelines for items such as pencils or three-ring binders. According to school officials, these specifics were not included because the usage and consumption of supplies varies by grade level and class. Thus, they are left up to the teacher’s discretion. As for availability,
“We work closely with the Army, Air Force, and Navy Exchange services.
However, should a particular item not be available, teachers should be
amenable to students using available substitutions,” Ohman said.
“Questions or concerns can always be discussed with the school principal.” |
