Parents Encouraged to Register Students Online Before School Starts

WIESBADEN, Germany – The Department of Defense Dependents Schools – Europe strongly encourages parents of non-registered students to go online and register before school starts August 27.

This appeal extends to parents of new students who may have arrived over the summer, and parents of returning students who have not yet reregistered for the 2007 – 2008 school year.

Online registrations can be completed on the DoDDS-E website.

Parents who register online will still need to visit the school, provide documentation (such as current orders, shot records, proof of date of birth and ID cards), and verify the online data entries - prior to the first day of school for students to be fully registered in school.

Diana Ohman, Director, DoDDS-Europe said, “I cannot overemphasize the importance of registering or re-registering students as soon as possible.” The importance of doing so, Ohman emphasizes, is that class assignments, teacher hires, and classroom supply allocations are based on student enrollment figures.

Enrollment figures for all grades are hovering just below 31,500 students Europe wide. They are expected to rise by more than 6,000 students, a rise that represents increases in both the number of teachers needed and dozens of additional classrooms.

Jim Rodman, DoDDS-Europe Student Records, said, “Traditionally enrollments are lower at this time of year, as compared to the enrollment figures collected, say, in late September.” He said he expects current figures to increase by as much as 20 percent over the next few weeks as parents complete the enrollment process before the start of school.

Sponsors of incoming families are also being asked to help ensure newly arriving families register their students as early as possible. “They can accomplish this online before they depart from their current locations,” Ohman said.

Ohman points out, “The advance information that the online registrations provide helps our schools plan and prepare for the student’s arrival.”
