Special Education - Terms

DoDDS Special Education Vocabulary and Acronyms

·CSC - Case Study Committee - The committee of school professionals and parents who make special education decisions regarding a particular child - an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Committee.
·
CI -Communication Impaired - speech
·
EI - Emotionally Impaired or Early Intervention. Only the context gives you a clue
as to which it is.
·
HI - Hearing Impaired
·
IEP - Individualized Education Plan
·
LI - Learning Impaired - Includes Learning Disabilities and Mental Retardation.
·
VI - Vision Impaired
·
EDIS - Educational Developmental Intervention Services - This military and civilian agency provides Special Education Medically Related Services to our students.
·
EFMP - Exceptional Family Member Program. This is the program through which we try to place families in locations where the students educational and medical needs can be met.
·
ESY - Extended School Year - The Summer program for those serious cases where this need has been documented.
·
EXCENT - The Special Education Computer Program
·
DODI 1342-12 - The Department of Defense implementation of IDEA
·
RUMRS - Reports of Unavailability of Medically Related Services. This is a report the school sends in to Washington on unmet medical needs for Special Education kids.
·
SLP - Speech/Language Pathologist.
