How
can schools run READ 180 Stage B & C on the same db?
For schools
that want to run READ 180 Stage B & C on the same db, this
can be done with one codicil: Stage C students who test out
to Level 1 must have all Stage B topic CDs marked as completed
through the Edit Students function within the Management Suite.
This will ensure they begin on Topic CD C01 rather than erroneously
with B01. Additionally, schools may also find answers
to questions on the Scholastic READ 180 web site: http://teacher.scholastic.com/read180/techsupp/faq.htm

Question:
How do you fix incorrect student numbers in EXCENT? I know that
almost every school has had the problem of a student given an
incorrect social in WinSchool. Often this student is added into
EXCENT. After the wrong social is in Excent, you can't change
it to get the correct kid. Well, here is the solution. And it
does work. I had two schools so far that fixed this problem.
In
order to fix this student record you must login as the administrator
of Excent. Delete the record that was fixed in WINSCHOOL with
the corrected ID. In Excent you can go to the Admin/Admin Functions
area and select Change Student ID's. Type in the wrong ID for
the student that you wish to change. Then change the students
ID to the correct ID.
Question:
Are virus protection programs available for free downloading
by DoDDS employees to install on their personal computers?
From
a recent DoD-CERT AntiVirus Team e-mail message. "On Jan.
31, 2003, DISA and Network Associates announced the launch of
a new Web site that will allow active Department of Defense
(DoD) military and civilian employees to access anti-virus,
anti-hacker and anti-spam software from their home PC's. This
marks the first time a comprehensive consumer security solution
is being offered to DoD users. Home use of security products
lessens the threat of employees transferring malicious logic
onto DoD networks.
Through
the agreement, McAfee's VirusScan 7.0 Home Edition software
is available to Department of Defense employees free of charge
for their home use. With McAfee VirusScan, users can scan and
protect their computers from the thousands of viruses, Trojans
and other malicious code that may harm PCs. McAfee VirusScan
also comes with an integrated personal firewall that blocks
hackers from gaining access to users' systems.
