Assistive Technology
We enable Special Education Teachers to utilize low and high tech devices appropriately with their special needs students to increase, maintain and improve their functional capacities. Use of these devices or specialized software can enable many students to be successfully included in the general education classroom with their same age peers.
Teachers and Administrators will be informed of the new IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) regulations regarding Assistive Technology and learn how to be in compliance. Staff development continues to be a priority and will consist of small and large group training for special and general education teachers, students, and parents. Presentation topics will cover specialized software, hardware, augmentative devices, and the assessment process. In addition, classroom and school-wide site visits will be conducted in conjunction with local Administrators, District Special Education Coordinators, and the DoDDS-Europe Special Education team members. On-going consultation by e-mail, fax, and telephone will also be conducted.
