Reintegration Block Leave, Accelerated Completion, and Early Withdrawal

If your family is contemplating Reintegration Block Leave or PCS orders toward the end of this school year, the Department of Defense Dependents Schools – Europe has three programs that may support those plans and protect the student. The programs are Reintegration Block Leave, Early Completion, and Accelerated Withdrawal.

  • The Reintegration Block Leave program supports extended family leave periods following a deployment. This program allows students to receive assignments in advance of joining parents on leave and allows up to two weeks to complete those assignments.
  • As the name implies, the Accelerated Completion program allows students to receive and complete assignments prior to the end of the school year if their Reintegration Block Leave falls during the final weeks of school. This program has two important requirements; the student must be in school all day on the day prior to the Early Withdrawal date (May 17, for most DoDDS-E schools), and all assignments must be completed in order for the student to receive a final grade. Students taking advantage of this program are planning to return to DoDDS-E next school year.
  • The Early Withdrawal program is similar to Accelerated Completion with the exception that students will be withdrawing from DoDDS-E due to PCS orders, and will not be returning. The same two conditions apply. The student must be in school all day on the day prior to the Early Withdrawal date (May 17, for most DoDDS-E schools), and assignments must be completed for a final grade.

For specific requirements on these programs, I encourage parents to contact their school, discuss the student’s absence, and identify any conflicts that may negatively impact a student’s success, such as final exams or special events. Please coordinate with the school early in the planning process.

For more information, or specific dates and procedures for utilizing these programs, please contact your local school.
